Submitted by Lopez Island School District
Lopez Island school marked the successful conclusion of its 16-month renovation project on Tuesday, Sept. 5, the first day of the new school year.
As a student rang the historic school bell other students prepared to cut a red ribbon at the new entrance to the renovated east building. After the ribbon fell students and parents walked past welcoming school staff and into the renovated multipurpose room and the expanded and rebuilt school kitchen.
Thursday, Oct. 5, a community celebration of the renovated school will be held in conjunction with the fall evening meal sponsored by the Lopez Locavores. A school open house and tours of the building will begin at 4:30 p.m. The evening meal will begin at 5:30 p.m. A Heather and Robert Harrison photo essay of the entire project will be featured. All are welcomed!
As well, the district wishes to convey a big thank you to the Lopez community for your support of the school and in particular your support for this major renovation project. We will hope to see you on Oct. 5.
