Local musicians entertain community

There are many wonderful and talented musicians living on Lopez Island. Among them are two small but supremely dedicated and talented groups that serenade us every year on many traditional occasions. This year, during the holiday season, as they have in the past, the Lopez Chamber and Youth Orchestras performed for the community on two occasions.

At its annual holiday concert at the Gathering Place at the Hamlet House, they performed a wide variety of music, including selections from George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah,” Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite,” and “Allegro” from the Christmas Concerto by Corelli.

At the Service of Lessons and Carols at the Grace Episcopal Church, the orchestras once again combined forces to perform selections from the “Messiah” including “Glory to God” and Handel’s “Bouree.”

Both orchestras perform under the leadership of Celia Rosenberger, who creates the programs, conducts and plays first violin. The holiday concerts are free to the public. Donations are welcome and encouraged. If you’d like to support these dedicated artists, or book them for an event, you can contact Celia at 360-468-2377.
