Lopezians and friends, again you surprised us with your enthusiastic support for the 40th annual Lopez Lions Club Run and Walk. This is noteworthy because the 4th fell on a weekday, a day which ordinarily means fewer participants. The money received from this race is always disbursed for needs in OUR community. Kudos to the faithful sponsors (showcased on the back of each shirt) for making this possible!
Special thanks to the Fudge Shop and Isabel’s Coffee Shop; their logos, for some reason, were not listed on the back of this year’s T-shirts, yet, they are some of our biggest supporters and always provide “freebies” for the race winners.
This year’s race was dedicated to Carolyn and the late George Woodbury who in the early part of the millennium turned this fun run into the success it has become today. We are grateful to our friends, the Woodburys, and thank them for their diligence and hard work which they have provided for many years.
Finally, we thank Marge McCoy for allowing us to use the interesting photo of the Horse Farm for this year’s T-shirt design. The Lopez Lions Club also wishes to thank the San Juan Public Works and sheriff’s departments, Lopez Fire Department and many others too numerous to mention, but vital to holding this event.
Check out the BuDu Racing web site (www.buduracing.com) for ALL race placements and times. Three hundred and ninety folks participated. Winners included 30-year-old Ryan McCrickerd and 30-year-old Lavinia Singer in the 10 K run with times of 34.35 and 42.48, respectively.
The winners of the 5K were 17-year-old Jacob Wilcox and 21-year-old Kyra Yanny with times of 16.36 and 22.28, respectively. Nineteen-year-old Georgia Greskovics and 51-year-old Mark Anderson walked away with the top the 5 K walk prizes Their times were 33.46 and 35.46, respectively. In the One Mile Romp, 7-year-old D. McKinney and 7-year-old C. Avolio won in 8.02 and 8.21 respectively.
A huge thank you and applause to every single helper and participant! Without you, we could not pull this off each year. The Lopez Lions Club looks forward to seeing you all again on the next Fourth of July, 2020.
