As the days are growing shorter, the Lopez Library is bringing back the popular Wednesday Night Movies program. Beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m., and continuing throughout the winter and spring months every week at the same time, the library will screen a wide selection of films in the Community Meeting room. The movies featured are primarily new releases, although not exclusively, and are chosen according to a monthly theme. Both feature films and documentaries will be shown throughout the program series. Films of all ratings will be screened, so viewer discretion is always advised, and minors will need parental permission to see PG-13 and R rated films. The theme for November’s movies is musicians and music. The first movie, on Nov. 6, will be the new release bio-pic “RocketMan,” a musical celebration of the life and career of rock star Elton John (rated R for language throughout, some drug use and sexual content). Discover how a shy, small-town boy becomes one of the most iconic figures in rock and roll. The next film, on Wednesday, Nov. 13, will be “Yesterday,” a fictional story about a struggling musician who realizes he’s the only person on Earth who can remember The Beatles after waking up in an alternate reality where the band never existed (rated PG-13 for suggestive content and language). On Wednesday, Nov. 20, a number of popular TED talk videos will be streamed, all featuring musicians speaking about the power of music and/or performing their music. The program includes: “Hidden music rituals around the world” with Vincent Moon; “Music is Medicine, Music is Sanity” with Robert Gupta; “How Architecture Helped Music Evolve” with David Byrne; “To the Beat of Light” with the Holladay Brothers; and “Why We Love Repetition in Music” with Elizabeth Margulis. The final film of the month will be on Nov. 27, titled “Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love,” an in-depth documentary about musician Leonard Cohen and his muse, Marianne Ihlen. All films begin at 6 p.m. Snacks and tea will be provided at each screening, and the capacity for the room is 40 people, so come a little early to guarantee a seat. See you there!
