The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

July 7

• Deputies investigated firearm noise during hours of darkness on Orcas. The responsible property owner was contacted and educated about the county code, which permits the discharge of firearms on private property when due caution is used, and between the hours of dawn and dusk.

July 8

• A Lopez deputy was sent to euthanize a deer that had been hit by a car on Fisherman Bay Road.

• A Lopez deputy was contacted by a Mount Vernon man about a stolen vehicle. The caller believed the vehicle could be somewhere on the island.

• A deputy responded to a report of vandalism in Friday Harbor. At this time, there are no workable leads.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of fraudulent activity. An investigation was completed and a report was forwarded to the police department where the actual crimes occurred.

July 9

• A Lopez resident reported possible threats made by another person against them.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for expired tabs, no windshield, no headlights and defective brake lights. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and issued citations for having an expired registration, no insurance and an open alcohol container.

July 10

• A mariner reported the theft of “floatation device compressed air canisters” while his dinghy was tied to an Eastsound dock.

• A deputy was dispatched to a trespassing complaint in Eastsound. A report was filed and a trespass warning letter was issued.

• Deputies on Orcas were dispatched to call of a domestic violence incident involving firearms in Eastsound. The suspect was arrested and booked into the San Juan County Jail.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and for an ignition interlock violation.

• A deputy was dispatched to a suspicious circumstance in the Friday Harbor area. The reporting deputy arrived and contacted a person sleeping on the sidewalk. The person was found to be in violation of release conditions.

• Deputies stopped the driver of a vehicle for expired tabs in Friday Harbor. The driver was issued citations for driving without insurance and an expired registration more than two months.

• Deputies found an amount of U.S. currency in Friday Harbor. The sheriff’s office will keep the cash until it is claimed by the owner.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a non-injury accident.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor observed a vehicle pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and issued the driver citations for passing in a no-passing zone, for not having insurance and for having an expired registration.

July 11

• A Lopez deputy took a report of an ongoing conflict between parties on Center Island.

• A Lopez deputy received a found item.

• San Juan deputies responded to the jail about an incident. The subject was arrested for third degree assault, felony harassment, intimidating a public servant and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

• A Lopez deputy and Lopez Emergency Medical Services responded to the death of a local resident.

• Deputies discovered a traffic hazard on San Juan. A vehicle was parked in a roadway, blocking traffic. No persons were in the area

to claim responsibility. The vehicle was impounded by the sheriff’s office.

• A deputy conducted an area check at the Westsound county dock after a report that a vessel, located at the dock, had been issued numerous citations for unlawful overnight moorage before. The deputy issued the vessel a citation.

July 12

• Deputies stopped the driver of a vehicle because the driver had a suspended license in Friday Harbor. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license-third degree and issued a citation for driving without insurance.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 60 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into the San Juan County Jail.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to an alarm call at a local school.

• A Lopez deputy was called about a dog trespassing on private property. The property owner was able to identify the dog’s owner and

resolve the matter before the deputy arrived.

• A deputy assisted Lopez Island Fire and EMS with a boat fire aboard a twin masted sailboat tied to a float out in

Fisherman Bay. No one was injured in the fire. The boat remained afloat and no environmental damage was noted. U.S.Coast Guard was notified of the incident by fire officials.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch. Relatives of the owner were able to recover the vehicle, which appeared to have suffered little or no damage.

• Deputies on San Juan helped a person with a court-ordered check-in at the Sheriff’s Office.

• Deputies investigated a citizen dispute on San Juan. The incident was determined to be civil in nature.

July 13

• A Lopez deputy was called to investigate a death in which a local resident passed away from apparently natural causes at home.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to check on a “trouble unknown” 911 call. Dispatch was quickly able to determine it was a medical incident and sent Emergency Medical Service. The law enforcement response was canceled.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to check on a flock of sheep creating a traffic hazard as they were reportedly out in the road. No sheep were found in the area.

• A Lopez deputy was called to assist a driver who had attempted to pull off the road to use the cell phone and ended up high centered

in an unexpectedly deep ditch. Good Samaritans were able to extricate the car and send the party on their way unscathed.

• A Lopez Island deputy was called to check on dogs that had been barking for hours. The dogs were physically fine. A note was left for the owners.

July 14

• A credit card was found and turned in to the Lopez Island substation. The issuing bank was notified and directed the deputy to destroy the card. The bank will reissue a new card.

• A San Juan deputy observed a vehicle fail to stop at the marked intersection of Blair Avenue and Guard Street. The driver was warned about failing to stop at a stop sign and was issued a citation for not having proof of insurance.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to an animal problem. The caller said there was a dog in distress on the beach. After a diligent search, the dog was located by an island resident, trapped between large rocks. Many volunteers and community members came together and were able to rescue the dog.

• A San Juan deputy arrested a male, who was parked at Linde Park, for violating a domestic violence no-contact order. The male was later transported and booked into jail to await his arraignment.
