Paddleboard peril, snatched signs, AWOL auto| San Juan County Sheriff’s log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Oct. 13

• A deputy on San Juan responded to the ferry terminal after receiving a report of an unlicensed driver coming off the ferry. The driver was stopped and arrested for driving with a suspended license-third degree and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock. The driver also received a citation for not having insurance.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. No crime appeared to have been committed.

Oct. 14

• A deputy was contacted about an order violation on San Juan. The caller reported there is an order against a person who was at a business the same time they were, though the other person did not attempt contact.

• An Orcas deputy arrested a subject at the intersection of Prune Alley and Main Street for an outstanding theft warrant.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a found wallet. The owner was found and the wallet returned.

• A deputy on Orcas took possession of some found keys. The owner was identified and contacted and the keys were returned.

• A deputy on San Juan came upon a vehicle blocking Egg Lake Road. The owner was contacted and could not remove the vehicle so it was impounded.

Oct. 15

• A deputy was contacted about the theft of a political sign on San Juan. The person stated they had placed a sign approximately 30 minutes earlier and, almost immediately, the sign went missing.

Oct. 16

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a single-vehicle collision. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and issued a citation for driving with wheels off the roadway.

• An Orcas resident reported fraudulent charges on her card from a suspect in Seattle.

• Lopez deputies, San Juan Fire, and Lopez Fire coordinated the rescue of two juvenile paddleboarders who were pushed away from shore by strong winds.

Oct. 17

• A Lopez deputy was called to check on a vessel that had mysteriously appeared at a marina. A note on the boat indicated it had been towed in and would be removed within 24 hours. No further action was necessary.

• A San Juan deputy investigated a report of a burglary. No suspect information was available. The incident was documented, and the reporting party was informed of ways to bolster security.

• A deputy was dispatched to a stolen vehicle in the Friday Harbor area. The person stated that her vehicle was taken after it was parked in town. A stolen vehicle report was taken. The vehicle was later discovered to have been taken by accident.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to check on a traffic hazard caused by a vehicle parked in the road below the crest of a hill. The owner was contacted and the vehicle was moved.

• San Juan deputies responded to an in-progress trespass complaint at a residence. The unknown suspect fled prior to law enforcement’s arrival.

Oct. 18

• A deputy was contacted in reference to a vandalism/theft on San Juan. A sign was removed from the park and is similar to several other thefts.

• A deputy on San Juan arrested, booked and jailed a person for fourth-degree assault, malicious mischief and third-degree DV.

Oct. 19

• On San Juan, a deputy was contacted about a lost wallet which, unfortunately, had not been turned in.

• A Lopez resident reported an attempted scam using a fraudulent check for an online sale.
