The San Juan County Sheriff’s Department on May 26 released stills from a surveillance video they believe shows suspected “Barefoot Burglar” Colton Harris-Moore about to steal a boat from a Lopez Island marina.

The images were recorded at 1:39 a.m. May 15, when a 30-foot boat was stolen from Spencer’s Landing Marina. They show a young man moving about on the dock near where the vessel was taken.

“These current images are the only images available, and the public needs to be aware of his appearance as of Saturday, May 15,” Sheriff Bill Cumming said. “This is the best picture available.”

Authorities believe accused serial burglar Harris-Moore stole a boat from a Cape San Juan home on May 13, beached it on Shark Reef on Lopez Island, then stole another boat from the Lopez marina two days later. That vessel was later found abandoned off Camano Island, the suspect’s home island.

Harris-Moore, 19, has been described as 6 foot 3 inches or 6 foot 5 inches, 205 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. He reportedly has a scar on his left arm from a knife wound.

He has been called the “Barefoot Burglar” or “Barefoot Bandit” because he is believed to have been barefoot during alleged break-ins in the San Juans.

Harris-Moore is wanted in connection with a series of burglaries as far back as 2008 on Orcas Island, as well as boat and airplane thefts from Orcas Island and Friday Harbor. He has also been connected to 20 to 30 burglaries in Island County.

He was charged in absentia in Island County Superior Court in March 2009, and in San Juan County Superior Court in October.

Harris-Moore was convicted in June 2007 of three counts of residential burglary and was given three years confinement. He escaped from a group home in Renton in April 2008 when he was still a juvenile.
