The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

March 30

• A deputy on Orcas responded to an unwanted person at a market. The person was given a trespass warning letter and informed that if they returned they would be arrested for trespassing.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to an assault. The victim and witnesses were interviewed, and camera footage was obtained. The suspect left the scene and deputies continued looking for the individual.

• A deputy on San Juan attempted to contact a victim about a possible fraud that had been reported by another agency. The deputy had attempted to contact the victim multiple times over several days via telephone and at their residence but has been unable to reach them.

• A deputy on San Juan conducted a welfare check at a residence per the request of child protective services.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a fraud call. A Lopez citizen received a phone call from a scammer claiming they represent a tech company. They convinced the citizen to buy gift cards from a market and send them the activation codes.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a callback report of a fraud that appeared to occur on Lopez. The caller reported that an unknown person had opened an account with a local internet service in his name on Lopez. An investigation revealed this was a case of mistaken identity and no crime had occurred.

• An Orcas deputy issued a no-trespass warning letter to a person for a local business.

• A deputy responded to a report of a dog-at-large. The sheriff’s office knew the dog from previous reports. When the dog was returned, the owner was issued a citation for a dog-at-large-second offense.

March 31

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a theft of a canoe off a dock near Eastsound. There are no suspects at this time.

• A deputy on San Juan conducted a civil service of a temporary order for protection via email. The related documentation was attached to the report files.

• An Orcas deputy served two people with no-trespass warning letters for a local island establishment.

• A driver known not have a valid driver’s license was stopped by a deputy on San Juan and received citations for not having a driver’s license with ID, no insurance, and for failing to notify the Department of Licensing of an address change. This was the sixth time the person was stopped since 2021 for not having a driver’s license or insurance.

• A Lopez deputy investigated a threats complaint in Lopez Village where a parent confronted an adult male who had been verbally hostile toward his juvenile son at the skate park. No crime was committed and the adult male said he would avoid the skate park and juvenile in the future.

• Orcas deputies responded to a boater in distress. After locating the boater in the Strait of Juan de Fuca just south of San Juan, deputies assisted one of the boaters onto the sheriff’s boat and eventually towed the distressed boat to Friday Harbor without incident.

April 1

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of found drugs. The suspect is a juvenile and the report was sent to Juvenile Services.

• A deputy was dispatched to a safekeeping call at the Orcas sub-station. The reporting party wanted to turn in some old handguns to be destroyed. A report was taken and the handguns were booked into the evidence room.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision in Friday Harbor. No suspect information was available.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of an unwanted person. The person was a resident at the house and could not be removed. The incident was documented.

April 2

• An Orcas deputy received a call about a potential fraud of a victim in Eastsound.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped an unlicensed driver who received a citation for not having a valid operator’s license and no insurance.

• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop on the 400 block of Crescent Beach Rd. The driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license. The driver was issued a notice of intent for expired registration, no proof of current insurance, and a suspended license.

• A Lopez citizen reported a deer carcass being consumed by eagles on Center Road and was concerned the eagles may be in danger of traffic. A deputy responded and ensured that the deer was far enough off the road and that no eagles were harmed.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a theft complaint in the Eastsound area. The investigation is ongoing.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a German Shepherd running loose on Cross Road. By the time the deputy arrived, the dog was nowhere to be found and the road was clear.

• A deputy was dispatched to a domestic incident in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived, interviewed the people involved, and ultimately arrested one person on a charge of minor in possession.

April 3

• An Orcas deputy took a report of a missing person/runaway Juvenile. The juvenile was entered into the national database as a runaway.

A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding ongoing civil issues on Center Island. Civil enforcement of existing HOA rules was suggested.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a two-vehicle collision. The driver of one of the vehicles failed to yield the right of way to the on-coming vehicle. The driver was issued a citation for failing to yield the right-of-way.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a vehicle that went off the roadway into trees and a fence. The driver was removed from the vehicle by fire personnel and transported to the hospital. The driver is suspected of driving under the influence and a search warrant for blood was obtained.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist call.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to a citizen dispute in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and, after speaking with the involved people, determined the incident was verbal only. The people were separated.

• A San Juan deputy located a person with an outstanding warrant, arrested, and booked them into jail without incident.

• A Lopez deputy provided courtesy transport to a tourist, who was involved in a car accident.

April 4

• A deputy on San Juan took a report from a citizen of suspicious activity near their residence. The deputy contacted the owner of the vehicle and it was determined that no crime had been committed.

• Deputies responded to an unattended death in Eastsound and determined the person died of natural causes.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a domestic incident near Westsound. After an investigation was completed the suspect was arrested.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of financial fraud where the victim sustained monetary loss. There are no workable leads at this time and the deputy is awaiting additional documents to be emailed in by the caller.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched with Orcas Fire & Rescue to a reported school bus accident with injuries. Units arrived to find the bus over 150 feet off the roadway down an embankment. The bus driver was flown off-island to receive treatment and all the students were safe and returned to their parents.

• A deputy was dispatched to the Orcas Park and Ride for a reported theft: two tires and wheels had been removed from a vehicle parked in the lot. The investigation is ongoing.

• Along with Orcas Fire & Rescue, an Orcas deputy was dispatched to a wildland fire that was determined to be an illegal burn. A report was made and forwarded to the county fire marshal’s office.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of fraud. There are no suspects at this time.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a juvenile problem.
