The second annual Kids’ Fiber and Wool Fest will be held at the Lopez Island Historical Museum on Saturday July 23 from 1-3 p.m. Children and their families are invited to participate in craft activities including spinning, felting, weaving and making cords. All the activities will be outdoors on the Museum grounds and kids will be able to take home the crafts they make. Volunteers from the museum will supervise the activities.

The afternoon is meant to celebrate the long history of traditional fiber arts on the island and to give children the opportunity to learn how textiles are made from wool and plant fibers. Children four to 12 years old are invited to attend but must be accompanied by an adult. Older kids are welcome, too!

This is the first of three summer events for children and families sponsored by the museum. A picnic and Old-Fashioned Kids Games Day is planned for Sunday August 14. And on August 20, Dr. Ian Lange, a geology professor and long-time Lopez resident, will give a talk about Ice Age Mammals of the Pacific Northwest. The talk will be geared toward kids and their families.
