The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
April 5
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a call for aid and found the person was intoxicated, violating a court order by consuming alcohol. The matter was referred to the court.
• Deputies received complaints of an abandoned vehicle on a county roadway on Orcas, though it was not impeding traffic at the time. The person associated with the vehicle failed to move it when he said he would, and a warning sticker was applied for the towing process.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of fraud. An address in Missouri was found to be using a Lopez resident’s information on their internet bill. The investigation is ongoing.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a citizen assist call. No criminal activity was reported, and the reporting party was referred to the appropriate agencies for assistance.
• A deputy responded to a reported threats complaint between two adults on Orcas. After discussions with both sides, they were able to handle their differences and shake hands. A report documenting the incident was completed.
• On Orcas, a trespassing complaint turned into a civil agreement.
• A San Juan deputy received a report of a credit card fraud that occurred in another country. There are no suspects.
• A deputy took a report of a ring found in Eastsound, collected the ring, and secured it as lost property.
• A case of identity theft that resulted in the victim being subjected to collections, was reported to a deputy on Orcas. Person(s) unknown had obtained the victim’s personal information and utilized it to make a fictitious Verizon account. The case is under investigation.
April 6
• On San Juan, a deputy received a referral from another agency. The deputy contacted the people involved and found the complaint was unfounded, and that any crimes that occurred happened in another jurisdiction.
• A deputy responded to a report of a theft in Friday Harbor. The deputy confirmed a crime had been committed, but the person involved had left the area. Probable cause was prepared for third-degree theft and second-degree burglary.
April 7
• Lopez deputies responded to a domestic violence incident. During the investigation, a person was arrested for fourth-degree assault and booked into jail.
• An Orcas deputy responded with Orcas Fire & Rescue to a welfare check. The individual was flown to the mainland for medical treatment.
• A San Juan deputy conducted a traffic stop on Cattle Point Rd. and issued the driver a citation for speeding – 66 mph in a 45 mph zone – and warnings for expired registration, operating a motor vehicle without valid proof of insurance, and not having a driver’s license on their person.
• On Orcas, a deputy took a report of a fraud that involved a known individual using the victim’s bank cards to make several unauthorized purchases. The case is under further investigation.
• Deputies responded to an Eastsound address about a domestic disturbance. After further investigation, it was determined probable cause was established for third-degree malicious mischief. One of the parties was arrested and booked into San Juan County Jail.
• A deputy issued a speeding citation to a driver of a vehicle on San Juan for traveling 39 mph in a 25 mph zone and a citation for not having valid proof of insurance.
• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a walk-in complaint of theft for an employee of a business. The investigation is ongoing.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 38 mph in a posted 25 mph-speed zone. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and received a citation for speeding.
April 8
• Deputies continue to investigate a case of vandalism on Orcas.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped a vehicle for having defective brake lights. The driver was given citations for driving with a license suspended-3rd degree and for driving with no insurance and a warning for defective brake lights.
• Deputies on Orcas served a protection order from the court with an order to surrender firearms. The respondent was cooperative and relinquished his firearms.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle that had been reported sold more than 45 days prior. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and the vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a single-vehicle collision and arrested the driver for driving under the influence and booked them into jail.
April 9
• A San Juan deputy learned that an individual who was arrested and released in Friday Harbor had not registered as a sex offender. The individual was then located, arrested for failure to register as a sex offender, and booked into jail.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a call in which the victim lost over $1,000 in fraudulent bank charges. The investigation is ongoing.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a threatening call in Eastsound. The reporting party could not give a description of the suspect and said they will contact a deputy if they see the suspect again.
• A box of shotgun shells was turned over to the Orcas Sheriff’s Office for disposal.
April 10
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for having white lights facing backward and cited them for not having a valid driver’s license, and no insurance, and gave them a warning for white light to the rear.
April 11
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a collision. The vehicle was unoccupied and only slightly damaged. The owner was contacted and said he would have it towed.
• A deputy responded to a callback on Orcas in which the reporting party wanted to let the Sheriff’s Office know about something they had heard about third-hand. An informational report was taken until further information can be obtained.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a welfare check after someone was heard yelling. After further investigation, it was learned that a domestic incident had occurred. An individual was taken into custody and booked into jail for harassment, weapons apparently capable of bodily harm, and malicious mischief.
