Under beautiful blue skies, Aug. 15th Annual Rotary Car Show at San Juan Vineyard brought in a record amount of funds and an amazing line-up of vehicles. This year net proceeds of $17,000 will go to The Family Umbrella Group, The Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center, Youth Conservation Corps, PolioPlus — Rotary International’s effort to eradicate polio — and the Rotary Foundation of the San Juan Islands.
In a Ferrari-heavy show, the variety of vehicles on display showcased automotive history and innovation and included a 1962 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2, originally owned and driven by Enzo Ferrari. Other prize winners included a pristine 1931 Ford Model A Pickup and a 1974 Lotus Elite. This conversion Lotus won in the Show’s new Alternative Fuel Vehicle category, a category which Rotary plans to expand in the future. The People’s Choice Award went to a 1997 Ferrari 355 Spider, and Best in Show also went to a 1977 Ferrari 355 Spider.
Special thanks go to: the judges from the Sports Car Club of the San Juans and Lugnut Automotive, the Argyle Street Jazz band for keeping things up-tempo, San Juan Vineyard for providing a classy venue and to OPALCO for sponsoring the new Alternative Vehicle display. And thanks too, to the 35-plus other show sponsors from the community and mainland. We also want to thank the many owners who proudly displayed their vehicles, and lastly attendees who donated generously at the gate and purchased 165 lunches.
