2010 is the Lopez Tennis Association’s 10th anniversary. It will also be the tenth time the island has turned out for the association’s Open Tennis Tournament.
The tournament takes place on Aug. 6, 7, 8 at the tennis courts at Lopez School. As Vice President Christie Driskell says, you don’t have to know anything about tennis to have fun. “Bring a chair and an umbrella, absolutely anyone can watch.”
The competition includes men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles, and open singles. For those wishing to compete, the association has the entry forms on our website at www.lICTA.org, at the courts, and placed at the community bulletin boards
If, however, you are interested in tennis but in a less competitive atmosphere, the association has a range of opportunities to explore the sport.
There are summer tennis workshops available through the Family Resource Center from Aug. 9-13 and the ladies day mixer runs every friday morning at 9:30 a.m.
The mixed doubles play on Sundays at 4 p.m. Check the bulletin boards at the court for more information.
