Lopez Island, Washington’s newest postmaster, Krista Nixon, joined the Postal Service in 2014 as a clerk in Throckmorton, Texas, and is looking forward to her new role.

“I’m excited to bring a positive postal vibe to my new community and team,” she said.

As postmaster of Lopez Island, Nixon oversees six employees, three delivery routes, and more than 600 Post Office Boxes. Within the last decade, Nixon has served in many roles, including as an officer in charge, and postmaster in Throckmorton. She also acted as a hiring liaison, scanning analyst and growth coordinator and was part of the Throckmorton customer service team.

Three years ago, the Postal Service implemented the “Delivering for America” (DFA) 10-year plan to achieve financial sustainability and service excellence. Nixon understands the part she and her team play in this important endeavor.

Nixon contributes to the DFA plan through her hard work and accountability to customers, “Customer service is a number one must, and I engage with my team to make sure we are providing a high-quality service.”

Despite serving the majority of her postal career in Texas, Nixon is a Washington native and was born and raised in Skagit County.

Speaking of her career so far, Nixon says the most rewarding position to date was serving as the postmaster in Throckmorton, where she says guiding her employees and helping them understand the benefits of hard work and dedication enabled her office to be a top performer for the last seven years.

“Becoming the postmaster of Throckmorton has been a huge highlight of my career. Building my staff to understand the true meaning of teamwork has made for a very upbeat, fun, and loving work environment,” Nixon said.

Nixon is a proud mother to her son, who is currently serving overseas as an airman in the Air Force. In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors, hiking, and fishing.
