SJC Sheriff’s log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Dec. 24

• A detective responded to a report of lost property on Orcas Island. The item was retrieved and entered into evidence for the owner to claim.

• A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Beaverton Valley Road for expired registration of May 2022. The driver was issued infractions for expired registration over two months and no insurance and given verbal warnings on three other violations.

• An Orcas Island deputy was contacted regarding a citizen assist at the substation. The incident was documented.

• An Orcas Island deputy was dispatched to a mailbox vandalism in Eastsound. An investigation was conducted and later an individual was cited and released for hit and run, unattended property. The incident was documented.

Dec. 25

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a noninjury collision. The incident was documented.

Dec. 26

• A deputy was dispatched to a trespassing in the Friday Harbor area. The person was requesting a trespass warning letter be issued, which was prepared and signed. The trespassed person was served the letter. A report was taken.

• An Orcas Island deputy served a local transient with a no trespassing warning letter for a local business.

• A deputy was contacted about a Theft in the San Juan Island area. The person was reporting that at least three packages had not been received after being told the packages had been delivered. A report was taken.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to an unwanted person. The individual was contacted and issued a trespass warning letter for the property. The incident was documented.

• A San Juan deputy received a request to assist Adult Protective Services. The request was found to already be under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

• A San Juan Island deputy received a lost phone from a business. Unsuccessful attempts were made to locate the owner. The phone was placed in the property room.

• A San Juan Island deputy responded to a harassment call. This was a civil matter, and the individual was provided resources for SAFE San Juans.

• San Juan Island deputies respond to a dispute between roommates. No crime was committed, and SAFE San Juans pamphlets were given to both parties, and the incident was documented.

Dec. 27

• A deputy was dispatched to a trespassing in the Friday Harbor area. The business was requesting a person be issued a trespass warning letter. The letter was signed by the business and served on the person. A report was taken.

• Lopez Island deputies and Lopez Island Fire & EMS were dispatched to a mental health call. Involved parties were separated and a report was taken.

• A San Juan deputy responded to an individual trespassing at a business. The individual was taken into custody, cited and released for criminal trespass in the first degree.

• San Juan Island deputies responded to suspicious activity at a condominium. Deputies arrested an induvial for residential burglary and theft in the second degree.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a vandalism call. An individual reported their tires being slashed in the ferry terminal parking lot. A report was taken.

Dec. 28

• A deputy was dispatched to a safekeeping call in the Friday Harbor area. The person turned over a firearm to be destroyed. The firearm was taken and entered into evidence for destruction. A report was taken.

• An off-island anonymous third party called to report a domestic disturbance incident, which was determined to be unfounded.

• San Juan Island deputies responded to a complaint of a dog at large. The owner of the dog was issued a dog at large warning letter.

• A deputy was dispatched to a malicious mischief call in the Friday Harbor area. The person reported that someone was damaging the community mailboxes. A report was taken.

• A deputy on Orcas Island documented receipt of a statement form received in the mail. There was no crime committed and no further action was required. The deputy generated a case number and completed an informational report.

Dec. 29

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a burglary. There are currently no suspects.

Dec. 30

• Deputies on Orcas Island responded, along with Orcas Island Fire and Rescue personnel, to a reported overdose. The subject was located and later transported to a hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Dec. 31

• A Lopez Island Deputy was dispatched to a mental health call. The incident was documented and then referred to Compass Health and Adult Protective Services.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a mail theft call. The individual who resides on the north end of the island advised that they had lost several hundred dollars worth of packages from their mailbox that had been delivered around Christmas.

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle in the 50 block of Lopez Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 42 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding on the 200 block of Enchanted Forest Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for failing to renew the vehicle registration. He was also issued several verbal warnings.
