The San Juan County’s Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

March 26

• Orcas Island deputies contacted a person reporting fraud. Deputies took the report and found the matter to be civil in nature.

• A Lopez resident reported the theft of packages from their mailbox.

• Orcas Island deputies received a report of harassment. After investigation, deputies found no criminal activity, and the parties were referred to the appropriate agencies.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a non-injury collision. The causing driver was issued an infraction for failure to stop at a stop sign.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of mail theft. A report was completed.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver speeding 51 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Olga Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. The driver was given a verbal warning for other infractions.

• Deputies on San Juan Island located a male with active warrants for his arrest. The male was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the San Juan County Jail. A report was completed.

March 27

• Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute call in the Friday Harbor area. Deputies arrived and contacted the people involved. After an investigation, one person was arrested for assault in the fourth degree – domestic violence, and booked into custody.

• A Lopez man was trespassed from Odlin Park.

• San Juan Island deputies responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle. Deputies found that someone had entered an unlocked vehicle and taken four bath towels. There was no evidence found identifying a suspect.

• A Lopez resident reported damage to a parked vehicle at a local business. Juveniles were reported as likely involved.

• An Orcas Island deputy assisted a property owner in the Eastsound area in rescinding a trespass notice from a citizen that was trespassed from that property a few years ago. The citizen is now allowed back onto the property.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 58 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued infractions for speed and no insurance. The driver was warned for expired registration.

March 28

• A deputy was contacted about a theft in the San Juan area. The person discovered a package had been taken from their mailbox. The mailbox was in a community mailbox area, and multiple mailboxes were missing mail. A report was taken.

• A deputy was contacted about malicious mischief occurring in the Friday Harbor area. A vehicle belonging to a business had a slogan painted on the side of it. No suspects at this time. Additional patrol in the area was requested. A report was taken.

• Deputies were dispatched to a civil issue. The deputy made contact with the people filing the complaint. The people reported an issue with their employer. A report was taken.

• San Juan Island deputies received a report of a theft from a vehicle. Deputies found that someone had entered an unlocked vehicle and taken two phone chargers. There was no evidence found identifying a suspect.

• San Juan Island deputies responded to a welfare check. Upon arrival, deputies were contacted by a neighbor stating that the homeowner was out of town on vacation.

• An Orcas Island deputy assisted a local citizen by authoring a report for a stolen license plate and explaining how to obtain a new license plate. The stolen license plate has been notated in the system for all law enforcement agencies to identify the license plate as stolen.

• San Juan Island deputies received a report of reckless driving. A driver and vehicle matching the description given were contacted, but the reporting party did not provide enough information to move forward with the investigation.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the owner had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested for driving while license suspended in the third degree and driving without an ignition interlock device.

March 29

• A deputy was contacted about a vehicle prowl that occurred in the Friday Harbor area. The person calling advised that two vehicles were entered over the previous night. Only one small item was removed from one of the vehicles. A report was taken.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a report of a dog having been left in a vehicle. Further investigation led to the discovery of a squatter living on the property. One person was arrested on charges related to burglary and property damage.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for dark window tint. The driver was issued an infraction for no insurance and multiple warnings were given.

March 30

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a burglary complaint. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report about escalating behavior and tension between family members. A report was completed.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of an unwanted person. The reporting party stated that an individual had been creating problems at a property and wanted to know what to do. An informational report was completed.

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of a domestic incident. The victim was taken to a safe location. Probable cause was established for the suspect for felony harassment – domestic violence, and assault in the fourth degree – domestic violence.

March 31

• An Orcas Island deputy took a report of a stolen check that was cashed. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of possible vandalism. The reporting party stated they believed a large dog entered their vehicle and urinated on the seat. Camera footage was reviewed, however, the culprit was not able to be identified. A report was completed.

• Deputies on Orcas Island attempted to serve an arrest warrant. The suspect fled after having been told he was under arrest. He was charged with resisting arrest.

April 1

• An Orcas Island deputy was called to the Orcas Island Middle School for a report of an adult male trying to grab a female student on campus. An investigation was conducted, and it was determined that the student fabricated the story to try and get out of going to school. A report was taken.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an assault call that occurred at Country Corner. An investigation was conducted, and a suspect was identified after punching a victim in the face inside the business. The investigation has been sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision.

• A deputy on San Juan Island had contact with a citizen at the station. The citizen wanted two people trespassed from his property on Orcas Island. Follow-up will be done to contact the two people and give them a trespass letter.
