In just a couple of short weeks, Lopez Island’s Fisherman Bay will light up with the 24th annual Lopez Island Fireworks.

There is a chance to help fundraise for this event by attending the salmon barbecue.

There are several improvements to this year’s barbecue, including pre-sale tickets and a fast-track line dedicated solely for those who bought their tickets in advance.

The menu features salmon barbecued over an alder wood fire and topped with a special sauce and lemon slices. There will also be garlic bread, salad, watermelon, cantaloupe and honey dew melon. Beverages will include coffee, tea and pop.

The fireworks committee is also selling Lopez Island Fireworks clothing. There are t-shirts, sweatshirts and hats for sale this year. Each year there is a new design and color for the shirts – this year they are green. All of the shirts are dated and have become collector’s items for many fans of the fireworks. Some people boast they have them from every year.

There is a new item this year, sweatpants with the word “BOOM” written on them.

Salmon Barbecue tickets are $16 for adults and $10 for children. Family discount packages are available. Pre-sale tickets and fireworks clothing can be purchased at www.lopezfireworks.com, or the Lopez Island Chamber of Commerce.
