Conservation District Elections

It is almost spring and it is time for the San Juan Islands Conservation District Board Elections — sign up by Wednesday, March 12, by calling 378-6621.

The Conservation District is charged with preserving our natural resources, supporting agriculture and educational activities.

The district is supervised by a volunteer Board of Supervisors who set the goals of the Conservation District and have monthly board meetings every second Tuesday of each month. Supervisors are expected to occasionally to travel to local conferences to represent the district.

The current Supervisors represent three of the ferry served islands and consist of our chair, Jerry Kasparek elected — up for re-election) and members Vicki Heater (appointed), Thom Pence (appointed — resigning), Henning Sehmsdorf (elected) and Peter Walmsley (elected).

There are two positions up for election this spring: one elected position and one appointed position (appointed by the Washington State Conservation Commission, www.scc.wa.gov/).

If folks are registered to vote in San Juan County they are eligible to vote in the election (e-mail r.zee@sanjuanislandscd.org with address or call 378-6621) and run for the appointed position (e-mail r.zee@sanjuanislandscd.org or call 378-6621).
