There will be a CPR and First Aid class for youth going into 5th grade and above, July 28 from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Eastsound Fire Hall. Teenagers are encouraged to participate, and adults are also welcome. First Aid class includes adult and child CPR/AED training. The first 2.5 hours will be first aid built around general principles, medical emergencies, and injury emergencies. Then environmental emergencies will be covered followed by adult and child CPR as well as how to use an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). AHA (American Heart Association) First Aid and CPR satisfy government requirements and is great to have on your resume for babysitting or for other jobs. Infant CPR may be covered in addition at the end of class if participants are interested. Register by July 23 so organizers know how many people will be taking the class. Please bring a sack lunch as there will be a half hour lunch break. The cost is $20. Call the Orcas Island Recreation Program (376-5339) to register or on-line at www.orcasrec.org, or pick up forms at the Senior Center or the public library.
