Lopez AA Meetings

Tai Chi on Lopez

Pearl Django dinner concert

There will be a Pearl Django dinner concert at the Galley Restaurant, Thursday, Dec. 4. Dinner is at 5:30 dinner, and the concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $40. Human Rights lecture

Dec. 10 was proclaimed Human Rights Day when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on that day in 1948. The Friday Harbor Group # 607 of Amnesty International invites you to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Human Rights Day at Saint David’s Episcopal Church on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Chaplain James Yee, former United States Army Captain and Muslim Chaplain at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. Chaplain Yee will address “My Experiences at Guantánamo Bay: Human Rights and the Lessons Learned.” A reception will follow and the event is free to the public.

Children’s Festival organizers needed

Plans are just beginning for the 19th Annual Children’s Festival scheduled for May 2, 2009 and committee members are needed to help with planning, organizing and implementing this festival. With the exception of the festival day itself, time required is minimal, averaging 4-6 hours per month. Call Sally Thomsen at Island Rec at 378-4953 to learn more about this opportunity.
