Calling all Lopez artists! Here’s your chance to create the design to be emblazoned on this year’s 4th of July run/walk tee shirt. Sponsored by the Lopez Lions Club, all proceeds from the race are distributed back to community causes. For several years Lopez School students have had the opportunity to create the tee shirt design seen on both on Lopez and as far away as Ethiopia. Race organizers believe that all Lopezians should now have a chance to enter the contest and show off their art. So grab a pencil or pen and create the winning design, win $50, and help in this major Lions Club fund raiser. For example, over just the past two years Lions Club donations have benefited 18 Lopez non profit organizations with more than $19,000. They include such diverse and worthwhile causes as the Lopez Island Family Resource Center, several Lopez School District projects, Substance Abuse Prevention, Vision Assistance, the Lopez Cemetery Association and the Community Shakespeare Company.
The design should be in black on white paper, so it will stand out against a light colored tee shirt background. The contest is now open and closes April 1. Please submit three (3) 8.5 by 11 inch Xerox copies for the judges, and in digital format, if possible, for the tee shirt printer. Please mail your design to Cherill Perera, 109 Amelia Lane, Lopez, WA 98261.
The 2008 4th of July race/walk had over 300 entries and netted more than $3,000 for Lopez causes. This year we hope to surpass those numbers for the good of Lopez!
