The Spirit of Giving Program: The Giving Program provides holiday assistance to Lopez families who are struggling. Community help is needed. If you would like to donate to the program, or sponsor a family, please call or send a donation to the Lopez Family Resource Center, PO Box 732, or through our website:www.lifrc.org. You may also pick up gift tags at Giving Trees set up at Sunset, Islander’s Bank, the Bay Café, and the Galley. Gifts will be distributed Dec 18, so donations now are appreciated. A Winter Solstice Evening: Stanley and Kip Greenthal, with special guests Christos Govetas and Eliot Grasso, will share spirited traditional and original songs and stories of the season. Come hear music from Brittany, Scotland, Ireland, the Balkans and more in this concert which features a variety of instruments, from uilleann pipes to the Greek lute. Friday, Dec. 18 at the Lopez Center. Tickets available at the Lopez Center (468-2203), or Paper Scissors on the Rock, Blossom, Islehaven Books, Islandale Southender. $15 general, $10 youth 5-17, children under 5 free.

Annual Christmas Bird Count on Lopez Island:

Lopez Community Center Needs Volunteers!: Ongoing community events need your help. Duties may include setting up chairs, ticketing at door, serving beverages and enjoying the event. You will receive two tickets to an event of your choice.

The Whale Museum: “Black and White Night” fundraiser will be held at Friday Harbor House on San Juan Island. The dinner event will feature Chef Greg Atkinson, noted author and culinary instructor as well as former chef of the Friday Harbor House. Also featured is Jason Codding, the Chef behind the new Bluff Restaurant. The cost is $75 per person which includes the reception with cash bar, sit down dinner with wine from Northwest Totem Cellars, and a dessert celebration. Seating is very limited. Reservations can be made in The Whale Museum’s store or by calling (360) 378-4710 ext. 30. This year-end celebration dinner is a fundraiser for the Museum’s education and research programs.
