The Thanksgiving weekend is almost upon us and the library stands ready to help. There are a display of mouth-watering cookbooks and DVDs to get your culinary juices flowing, handily located across from the service desk.
The hard part will be deciding which recipes to try. Don’t forget the after turkey exercise to be found at the Friends of the Library book sale. Held at the Community Center 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., there are endless opportunities for lifting and reading to be had. Support your local library and get some great holiday gifts at the same time.
Interested in other ways to help your library? We are in need of more volunteers during these winter months to help staff the desk and shelve books. It is a great way to interact with your fellow book-loving islanders and keep an eye on the latest new additions at the library at the same time. Call or email Judy Welker at 468-2265 or judy@lopezibrary.org.
Join us for our annual ornament-making part on Dec. 4, 1-2 p.m.
Children, age four and up will have a great time creating fun and easy holiday tree ornaments. We’ll bring the supplies and treats. You bring the creativity and enthusiasm. Library staff and volunteers will be on hand to demonstrate and make some for our own library tree.
Mark your calendar for Dec 21. The library will be offering a unique event by the Knights of Veritas; a non-profit organization specializing in interactive, educational demonstrations of medieval arms, armour, combat, knighthood and chivalry.
Imagine, experiencing thrilling demonstrations of historical combat technique in your own library!
Authentically weighted and detailed steel swords and armour provide an eye-opening experience to the library audience. Exciting hands-on sharing allows the audience the rare opportunity to handle the weapons and try on the armour.
Television, movies, fantasy literature and games have perpetuated many fanciful and erroneous misrepresentations of the middle ages. Through hundreds of fun, entertaining and educational presentations, Knights of Veritas has brought its message of chivalry and amazing historical facts to thousands of families throughout the Pacific Northwest!
