The 10th Annual Steve Braun Memorial Triathlon in Moran State Park on Orcas over Labor Day Weekend was fun, comfortable, and had lots of positive energy.

The 10th Annual Steve Braun Memorial Triathlon in Moran State Park on Orcas over Labor Day Weekend was fun, comfortable, and had lots of positive energy.

The course record now belongs to Josh Fountain, a junior at the University of Washington and head of the UW triathlon club. The fastest time for a woman went to Jennifer Gilbert. The winner in the teams division was comprised of Suzanne Stevens, Morgan Borman, and Dave Roseberry.

While the triathlon continues to grow, organizers were able to retain a comfortable atmosphere in honor of Steve Braun. There was a good mix of locals and visitors to the island. Although the event offers the opportunity for competition, it is the beauty and the challenge of the course that makes this triathlon one of the favorites among triathlon participants.

The triathlon raises funds for Friends of Moran State Park and San Juan Preservation Trust, both of which Steve Braun was very involved. Funds raised also go to the Orcas Island Recreation Program, which provide a variety of excellent year-round opportunities for children, youth, and adults.
