The sounds of Cuba are coming Lopez this March. 

Bobi Céspedes, acclaimed Afro-Cuban songstress and educator, will bring her five-piece band to the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts on March 17, 7:30 p.m. 

Janet Baltzer, the new Director at the center, is excited to present the exotic vibrance of Céspedes and her performers, “Come out to feast your eyes and ears,” Baltzer said. 

Céspedes embarked on her solo career in 2002, weaving together various musical genres and singing in three different languages, english, spanish, and lucumi; the mother tongue of the descendants of the Yorubas of West Africa in Cuba. 

Céspedes is not only a folkloric songwriter, dancer and percussionist, but is also a recording artistic, storyteller, lecturer and a teacher of cultural arts. She has been involved in the preservation and the teaching of Afro-Cuban culture and its many traditions for more than 40 years.

Avanced tickets for the concert are $12 for adults, $8 for youth, or $15 and $10 at the door on the night.
