10th Annual Lopez Children’s Center Auction: Preview and silent auction 3-4 p.m., Live Auction 4-5 p.m. Thank you for donating an item to the 2009 Children’s Center Auction. All proceeds from the Auction go to benefit the Lopez Children’s Center. Please deliver your item to the Children’s Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 1 (please note the change this year). Notice of Special Public Meeting: Please join County Council Members Richard Fralick, District 4, Orcas West, Gene Knapp, District 5, Orcas East, County Administrator Pete Rose And County Auditor Milene Henley for a Town Hall Meeting at the Fire Protection District No. 2, 45 Lavender Lane, Eastsound, Orcas Island on Thursday, August 6, 2009, 4 -6 p.m. Details of a countywide property tax increase currently under consideration will be discussed and public input about its structure will be actively solicited. Additional items for discussion will be the current county budget crisis, the Uplands’ Critical Areas Ordinance, the Shoreline Master Plan Update, the Eastsound peddling and sign ordinances and other important issues facing the County. Photography for Teens: “What the Camera Sees” Learn how to use a camera creatively during a photography class for teens, Monday, August 10 from10 to 3 p.m. Bring your own digital camera if you have one. Summer Day Camp for Children: Boys and girls ages 3-6 will get together for fun at the annual Orcas Rec Program camp. The camp includes outside and inside activities, games, stories, puzzles, music, building, and playing with new friends. Snack will be provided. Registration can be for the week or by the day. Monday-Friday, August 10-14 (9:30-12:30) at Salmonberry School. The cost is $65 a session or $17 a day. Call the Orcas Rec. Pottery Time: Children ages 6-15 are invited to create pottery on the wheel or by hand with help from experienced potters at The Right Place Pottery Tuesday, August 11 from 11 – 1 p.m. Participants will also play at the beach and return to paint their creations at their leisure.
