On Saturday feb 6, 10.00-3.00 p.m. the Lopez Island Community Church is running a garage sale and bake sale. The proceeds will go towards funding an aid trip to “City of Angels” orphanage in the Tijuana area of Mexico. The church has a four year affiliation with the orphanage, traveling there each year to help in various projects. “This year will be a little different” says trip leader Pastor Jeff Smith. Usually the trip includes a smaller number of Congregational members and friends, however this year a larger number of young people and children traveling independent of their families will be participating in the trip. “It’s kind of a family trip” says Smith.

Smith has had a long standing acquaintance with Sergio Gomez, the founder of the orphanage, a friendship that started the church’s annual exodus south. The specific project for 2010 will be the construction of a girl’s wing of the orphanage. The current standing wing is unusable due to a sinking structure.

The event will be held at the lopez isand community church, for information call dot kovac 3558.
