The annual meeting of the Catherine Washburn Memorial Association (CWMA) will be held May 15, at 10 a.m. at Lopez Library. Reports will be provided and directors elected to three vacant positions as specified in the by-laws.
Running for board positions are: Diana Hancock, who is running for a second, three-year term; Tamara Cowan, who is running for a second three year term; and Ron Shively, who is running for a first three-year term.
Nominations will be taken from the membership; nominees must be members of CWMA, permanent residents of Lopez Island, and have the written endorsement of ten CWMA members. Nominations must be postmarked by March 25, and sent to CWMA PO Box 309, Lopez Island, WA 98261.
Nominee Statements: Diana Hancock: My husband Jerry and I have been full-time residents and members of CWMA since 1999. I have served on past CWMA Boards and was president for several years. I’m very active in the community and currently serve as chair of the Lopez Island School Board and as an officer in the Lopez Island Lions Club and the Lopez Island Yacht Club.
Tamara Cowan: Being owner and operator of Sunset Builders for 14 years has given me business experience and familiarity with the building process that has been very helpful with my work on the CWMA Board. I chair the Facilities, Equipment and Grounds Committee, and have responsibility for general upkeep and building maintenance at the Clinic. I love being able to contribute to the Lopez community and CWMA, and would like to serve a second term.
Ron Shively: Before Roxanna and I purchased property on Lopez several years ago, we wanted to be assured of adequate health care. We quickly learned about the Clinic and its caring staff, and soon joined the Catherine Washburn Memorial Association. I bring the experience of three concurrent careers: With the State of Washington where I worked in information services, 28 years military experience as an Army Officer in both the active and reserve components and serving the community in various capacities within emergency services.
If elected as a CWMA Board Member, I believe these life experiences should help the board guide the association.
