San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:
Sept. 26
• A Lopez deputy checked on the well being of a child who was the subject of a custody dispute. The child was found safe and sound with his parent. Custody issues are pending before the courts.
• A Lopez deputy was called by an island resident to remove an unwanted guest from the property. The guest, a family member was removed from the property and delivered to a friend’s house.
Sept. 27
• An Orcas deputy was directed to look into a theft, destruction of property at an Eastsound residence. The deputy conducted an initial investigation and a report will be completed.
• A Lopez deputy, along with Lopez Island EMS, responded to a man down along Center Road. The man was uninjured and refused medical assistance. A friend came upon the scene and the subject left with him.
• A Lopez deputy, along with fire and EMS, responded to the 5000 block of Center Road for a rollover vehicle collision. Although the vehicle was severely damaged, there were no injuries. The investigation revealed no crime and the cause appeared to be a distracted driver.
• A vessel was tied to the San Juan County West Sound dock after day-use hours. A warning notice was placed on the vessel. It hasn’t moved since. The same vessel was found on the other side of the same dock a few nights prior.
Sept. 28
• A Lopez deputy stopped a driver for speeding in the school zone. The driver had a suspended license and received a criminal citation for third degree driving without a license.
• A deputy was dispatched to report of fraud in Friday Harbor. The reporting party involved was able to provide a suspect who will be interviewed after all statements are collected.
Sept. 29
• A manager from a Friday Harbor business requested a subject be removed from the property. The subject was removed from the business and advised to talk with the business’ management via telephone if he needed to.
• A Friday Harbor resident contacted the sheriff’s office to report concern of his daughter’s welfare. An attempt to help him locate her was made with negative results.The daughter was reached by phone and said she was safe. The father requested deputies continue searching for her to confirm her safety.
• A Lopez deputy was contacted by a subject regarding a violation of a temporary protection order. A report was taken.
Sept. 30
• San Juan Island deputies responded to a single vehicle traffic accident on Cattle Point Road. The driver was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of Intoxicating liquor/drugs.
• A deputy initiated a traffic stop in Friday Harbor and the driver was issued an infraction for failure to wear a seatbelt. The driver was also warned for expired vehicle registration and no current proof of liability insurance.
• A San Juan Island deputy was dispatched to four people in the water in Cattle Passage. They were rescued and evaluated by medical staff. U.S. Coast Guard took over the investigation.
• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a report of trespassers on the reporting party’s property. The trespassers were contacted and instructed not to return.
• An Orcas deputy observed a subject in a bar in violation of his probation. The subject was contacted and removed from the bar without incident.
Oct. 1
• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a citizen dispute in Eastsound. After talking with both parties involved it was deemed a civil matter.
• Orcas deputies responded to a vehicle collision in Eastsound. One of the drivers had serious injuries and showed signs of alcohol consumption. The case is being investigated as a possible driving under the influence. The driver was flown off island for medical care.
• A San Juan Island deputy was dispatched to a hit-and-run. The victim was contacted at the scene. Photos were taken of the damage. There are no suspects at this time.
• San Juan Island deputies responded to a residence in Friday Harbor to investigate a domestic dispute. Parties were separated.
• Orcas deputies identified a driver who was speeding on Orcas road. The deputies cited the driver for speeding.
• A San Juan Island deputy investigated a hit-and-run to a vehicle while parked at PeaceHealth hospital. The incident took place between Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Damage to the victim’s vehicle is in excess of $1,000 dollars.
• Orcas deputies were dispatched to an Eastsound residence in reference to a theft. Deputies arrived and completed an initial investigation. A report was completed.
• Orcas deputies observed a driver speeding on Orcas Road. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver. The driver was cited for speeding.
• A Lopez deputy was called regarding a suspicious vehicle at a business after hours. A local resident was contacted at the vehicle, and explained that he had stopped to buy a soda out of the vending machine like he does almost every evening.
• An Eastsound resident called to report a protection order violation. A report was submitted to the prosecutor’s office.
• A San Juan Island deputy was dispatched to a single vehicle traffic accident. The reporting deputy arrived and discovered a vehicle off the roadway and into a tree. The occupant was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Oct. 2
• A San Juan Island deputy was dispatched to a citizen dispute in Friday Harbor. The reporting deputy arrived and contacted one of the involved parties. The subject broke the window to his own apartment to gain access. No crime was committed but the subject was found to be in violation of probation conditions.
• Orcas deputies identified a driver who was speeding on Orcas Road. The driver was cited for speeding.
Oct. 3
• An unknown subject(s) entered the home of a Friday Harbor resident and removed several items and money. This is an ongoing investigation.
• An Orcas deputy observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Orcas road that was speeding. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver warned for speeding.
• A San Juan resident reported theft of her medication. She said she was helping a homeless person by feeding him and allowing him to shower on Friday. When she went to get her medicine and found the empty bottle in the trash.
• An Orcas deputy observed a vehicle that was traveling faster than the posted speed limit. A vehicle stop was completed and the driver was cited for speeding.
• Orcas deputies contacted a wanted subject at an Eastsound business. The subject was able to post bond and was released with a promise to appear in court.
• A Friday Harbor resident reported that a male he knew entered through a window, grabbed a cell phone and then fled. It was determined the cell phone belonged to the man who grabbed it,but the apartment owner still wants him charged with trespassing.
Oct. 4
• An Orcas deputy observed a vehicle that failed to use turn signal in the downtown Eastsound area.
• A traffic stop was conducted and the driver warned for not using their turn signal.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a mental health crisis call with EMS. The patient was transported to a mainland hospital for evaluation.
• A Lopez man reported the theft of personal papers and other items from his home. A relative is believed to be involved in the theft. The matter is under investigation.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a hit and run. The victim reported that her vehicle was hit in a parking lot causing damage to her vehicle. There are no suspects at this time.
• A Lopez deputy checked on a disabled vehicle along Center Road. The vehicle posed no immediate hazard and was removed soon thereafter by the owner.
• A Lopez man reported a trespasser came come into his yard and frightened his children who were outside playing. The subject left after being told repeatedly to leave the property and not return. A report was taken and the investigation is continuing.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of an unwanted person. The residents at the apartment wanted an intoxicated person to leave. The deputy assisted the residents by giving the person a ride home.
Oct. 5
• A Lopez man reported a dog running at large in the area of Mud Bay and Mackaye Harbor Road. The dog returned home on its own before the deputy arrived.
• An Orcas deputy recognized and contacted a wanted subject at the Village Green. The warrants were confirmed and the subject was placed under arrest.
