While not quite as formal as some of the better known Concours d’Elegance, Lopez has had its own version since 2005. The first year there were 15 cars and last year there was a record 46 cars. They have included everything from a 1932 Chrysler, a variety of old Fords, Chevrolets and Dodges, Porches, Jaguars, Lotus, a Cord and the list continues. Any car that is antique, unique and/or unusual is more than welcome to join the event. There are more and more coming from off island which adds to the diversity of the cars and trucks.
Tex Gieling and Helen Cosgrove organized the event originally to get together people who appreciate antique cars. There are now more than just antique cars. And you never know what will show up next. Each year has brought something different.
This year’s event will take place on August 11 meeting at the school around 11 a.m. to visit and view the collection of vehicles. Around noon, the cars will parade north on Center Road, turn on to Fisherman Bay Road and then tour the village, past the post office, down to the bank, past Holly B’s, back up to Fish Bay Road, taking a left and doing the circle a second time through the village. The parade will head south along Fisherman Bay Road to Coffelt Drive where we park, bringing along your own picnic lunch and enjoying the afternoon.
