San Juan County Sheriff deputies responded to the following calls:

Jan. 25

Someone dropped off a cellphone to the dispatch office in Friday Harbor after finding it in the San Juan Island Library parking lot.

Two people delivered a wallet to the sheriff’s office. They said that it was found

outside the county victim services office, across the street from the courthouse.

A Lopez Island deputy was called to pick up a dog at large that they had trapped in their yard. The caller reported the dog was a frequent visitor and the owner wasn’t working to correct its behavior. The dog was taken to the kennel and Lopez Animal Protection Society was notified.

Lopez Island deputies responded to a reported domestic disturbance. The investigation revealed the dispute was verbal only and that no crime had occurred. The parties agreed to separate for the evening.

Jan. 26

Lopez Island deputies responded to a 911 hang-up at a residence off of Islandale Road. The investigation revealed that a domestic violence incident had occurred and deputies made an arrest. The arrested person was transported to jail in Friday Harbor to await a hearing with a judge.

An Orcas deputy responded to a burglary that took place at the public high school.

A Lopez Island deputy responded to an animal at large call. When the deputy arrived he found two good samaritans who had located the animals. They returned the animals to their pasture and fixed the padlocks on the fence.

Jan. 27

A Lopez Island deputy responded to a residence on School Road for a complaint of vandalism and harassment. The reporting person stated a known person broke a window in her home. She identified the suspect and an investigation is ongoing.

Deputies were asked to check on the welfare of an armed Orcas man who was experiencing a psychological emergency. Deputies performed high risk stop procedures after locating the vehicle. After a lengthy standoff, he was taken into protective custody without anyone getting injured (see The Sounder’s Feb. 1 story “Police in stand-off for three hours.”).

A deputy was dispatched to investigate a vehicle prowler who had taken money out of a parked vehicle in Friday Harbor. There are no known suspects at this time.

A deputy called a Waldron Island resident about three waterfowl hunters on a vessel shooting toward homes.

Jan. 28

A Lopez Island woman reported receiving a suspicious letter reportedly from an overseas bank. The letter suggests she may be an heir to a fortune from a distant relative. The letter appears to be fraudulent.

Five boys were seen stealing alcohol from the back of the Roche Harbor Store. They fled in a green Gator and were followed by store employees. Deputies arrived and located the boys, who were then taken into custody. They were released to parents with pending charges and trespass letters from Roche Harbor Resort.

Jan. 29

A deputy took a report of a vehicle prowler on Orcas Island who had stolen a phone and a shirt from a vehicle. The reporting party later discovered his phone on the front porch of his home. The shirt is still missing. The case is under investigation.

A Lopez Island man reported that a gate across a utility easement had been vandalized during the night.

A deputy responded to a call of two dogs chasing a pedestrian in the area of Mitchell Bay Road on San Juan Island. He located two dogs that were running loose on their property and attempted to contact the residents with negative results. Both of the dogs had aggressive demeanors.

Lopez deputies mediated a landlord-tenant dispute.

Jan. 30

A Lopez Island deputy responded to a traffic hazard of a significant quantity of broken glass along the roadway on Ferry Road. The source of the glass is unknown. Public Works was notified.

A Friday Harbor resident reported that someone left a pile of yard debris, about the size of small truck, on her driveway between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. There was no physical evidence and are no suspects at this time.

Jan. 31

A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a suspicious circumstance involving a possible prowler. No one was found on the premises.

Lopez Island deputies responded to a domestic violence complaint at a residence on Port Stanley Road. It was determined no physical assault occurred. The reporting person requested the other involved person be criminally trespassed from her property.
