Have you seen the new building going up in the Lopez Village? Wondered what it is? It’s the new building for the Lopez Island Family Resource Center (LIFRC) and Lopez Fit.
A very generous donor is playing Santa Claus to LIFRC and Lopez Fit. This wonderful Lopezian purchased the land and is paying for the construction of the new building going up in the Village incorporating the existing Lopez Fit building.
Once complete, the two organizations will move in to larger and more accessible space (including a new and improved Lopez Fresh area) to continue their important community work at no greater rent than they currently pay.
In case you were wondering, donations made to LIFRC and Lopez Fit are not being used for construction. They continue to be used for the exceptional programs and community support provided by each organization.
LIFRC serves over 600 adults, children and seniors. Donations are used for 29 programs: 37 percent for Household Supports, 18% for Social Emotional Programs, 15% Learning Opportunities, 19% Youth Development, and 7% Advocacy Work. Administrative costs are 4% of our total budget. This work relies on “LIFRC heroes”; donors who take action to share and help others on Lopez. This compassion is the spark that provides hope for a better, safer, healthier future for our entire community.
Lopez Fit serves over 200 members offering the benefits of health and well-being. Discount memberships are offered to those with low incomes through a generous grant, and many seniors through our association with Trivity Health (Silver Sneakers) and offer free classes for those members. Half of the workforce are volunteers to keep fees affordable for the whole community.
So in this time of holiday giving, please be generous in your support of these important Lopez organizations.
