National Small Business Day is on Nov. 26 and the Lopez Island Chamber encourages all islanders to support our local businesses to assure they stay in business, provide much needed jobs and help to sustain our local economy.
Lopez Island will also sponsor the Lopez Village Lighting on November 25 at 4:30 pm with all the Village merchants, galleries and restaurants staying open at least until 6 p.m. with some shops staying open until 7 or 8 p.m.
The chamber also wants to encourage people to support businesses outside Lopez Village such as Islands Marine Center and Islandale Southender Store.
“We are encouraging all islanders to support our local businesses to assure they stay in business, provide much needed jobs and help to sustain our local economy,” said Lia Noreen, Office Manager at the Lopez Island Chamber of Commerce. “We want to remind people that the sales tax in San Juan County is less than on the mainland and sales taxes gathered here stay here in the islands.
Shopping online sends our dollars off island with no return to our islands.”
Lopez Island Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Lopez Village Lighting event and also is responsible for decorating the Lopez Ferry Landing.
