This letter is in response to Dan Kovac’s letter in which he put forth misleading and invalid data regarding our Lopez School. I served on the School’s Budget Committee this year, along with a range of community members. In that process we developed a more accurate and complete picture of the school’s current financial status.
Dan Kovac’s claim that Lopez School enrollment is falling is absolutely not true. Looking to ACTUAL numbers (not the budget estimates Dan used), Lopez School District enrollment has grown from 204 students in October of 2011, to 232 students in 2012, to 235 students today (look up the actuals on the OSPI website).

I attended the July 24 Lopez School board meeting. At that time the 2014-2015 school budget was adopted and superintendent Bill Evans presented his 9.6 million dollar bond proposal.
Even the names are totally awesome. Every time I read a complaint my head shakes and I think, “Really?” I must let those serving know that I am grateful – that not all of us are complaining.
