Rick Hughes for council
I am dismayed at the cutting and often uninformed comments I have read lately in the letters to the editor section. It seems current White House divisiveness tactics are having a trickle-down effect on our community, and that, my friends, is disheartening.
As the wife of a county department manager/former port commissioner, I am keenly aware that the job of representing and working toward the greater good for all islanders and our precious islands can be tough and often thankless. Serving the needs of many, combined with the vast laws and regulations on local, state and federal levels in our unique home makes governing complex.
Are there decisions the county council makes that don’t benefit my particular agenda? Sure. However, I recognize that my wants and needs don’t always align with the bigger picture.
It is easy to hang hope on newcomers who are full of promise, but have yet to experience this vortex and may not understand all the parameters.
I have watched Rick Hughes listen with great patience and genuine concern to everyone who wants his ear. I have seen him work hard to find the best balance possible for our economy, our health, and our quality of our unique, island life.
I want a seasoned representative for our community as we navigate these unprecedented times, not someone on a steep learning curve that may or may not rise to the challenge.
Rick Hughes is the best choice for county council.
