Lopez Island Lions Club Fourth of July Fun Run/Walk
The 4th of July celebration on Lopez begins with the Fun Run/Walk, sponsored by the Lopez Lions Club. The event takes place on scenic courses through a pastoral setting with water views. The shirts have a Lopez Island scene. Enjoy the parade and other 4th of July activities in the village following the awards. All three courses are electronically timed, start and end in Lopez Village, are mildly challenging, and have a long, gradual downhill finish. The 10K course is point-to-point; the 5K and 1-mile courses are out and back. Unique Lopez awards are given to the first overall male and female finisher in the 10K, 5K Run, 5K Walk, and 1-mile events. Awards are also given to the first three male and female finishers in each age division in the 5K and 10K events.
The race starts at Banner Bank, 45 Weeks Road.

Friends of The Lopez Library annual Book Sale
Submitted by Micki Ryan.
Books, books, books as far as the eye can see are yours to gather at Lopez Center on July 4, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Every genre is identified by signs on each table, with hardback books for $2 and paperbacks for $1, and children’s books for 50 cents. Better yet, grab a FREE Red Book Bag and fill it with as much as it will hold for $20!
Your purchase of these previously loved books will benefit the many programs of the Lopez Island Library, including the annual Teddy Bear Picnic, literacy programs like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, summer internships, book clubs, and the very popular Seattle Arts and Lectures series. The Friends also supplement extraordinary and unexpected library expenses such as the replacement of the fire suppression system this year.
The Friends of the Lopez Library is a group of volunteers who meet monthly to plan events like the Annual 4th of July Book Sale and the Fall Book Sale. They also receive and sort donated books for future lifees at the Book Sales or in the library collections, and take part in Library programs, exhibits, and celebrations. Anyone with a Lopez Library card can be a Friend—sign up at the Book Sale to join the party!
