Jamie Laval, premier Celtic violinist.
Snowed out in December, Stanley and Kip Greenthal, and Jamie Laval, celebrate spring with music and song at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts on Sunday, May 17. A portion of the proceeds from the concert will benefit the Fisher and Doherty families and commemorate 10 years of the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts.
Nationally acclaimed Northwest songwriter and instrumentalist, Stanley stretches musical borders from Celtic Scotland, Ireland and Brittany to Greece and the Balkans. With soulful fluidity, he sings and plays a constellation of strings–the guitar, bouzouki, laouto and lavta (Greek and Turkish lutes). On stage, Scottish pipe marches, Breton round dances, and Cretan syrtos combine with original and traditional songs and poetry to create a stunning performance. Stanley’s wife Kip joins him with seamless harmony vocals and percussion.
One of the premier Celtic violinists on the international music scene today, Jamie Laval captures audiences with his intensely passionate performances of traditional music of Scotland, Ireland, Brittany and Quebec, rendered with hints of classical refinement and ethnic music from around the world. What puts Jamie’s music in a class by itself is the nuance, virtuosity, and musical craftsmanship he brings to an ancient art form, which takes the listener on an emotional journey from quiet melancholy to wild jubilation.
Special guest Zac Leger will add his considerable skills to the group, playing Uilleann (Irish) pipes on several pieces. The concert is Sunday May 17 7:00 p.m. at the LCCA.
