What happens when a poet, a novelist, and an essayist walk into an indie press? You can find out at Lopez Center for Community and the Arts on Friday, April 21 at 7:30 pm. That’s when Lopez Island authors Abigail Prout, Kip Robinson Greenthal, and Iris Graville will present a free event including reading and story-telling about their books and their work with Massachusetts-based Homebound Publications. Lopez singer/songwriter Stanley Greenthal will offer instrumental interludes between the readings. There’ll be some surprise appearances, too!
The COVID pandemic limited in-person gatherings for these authors’ most recent book releases, but they (and LCCA) believe it’s never too late to celebrate the written word. Although the three women write in different genres, all their works encompass themes of place, relationships, and the natural world. They’ll weave together excerpts from Walk Deep (poetry by Abigail), Shoal Water (a novel by Kip) and Hiking Naked and Writer in a Life Vest (memoir and essays by Iris), along with the joys of working with Homebound Publications. There’s no charge for admission, and a portion of book sales will go to LCCA. A few other titles from Homebound will also be available, and the first ten book buyers will receive a free copy of Hands at Work, Iris’s first book co-authored with Lopez photographer Summer Moon Scriver.
