EDC to offer Aging in Place Construction as part of Trades Training Initiative

Submitted by the Economic Development Council.

The Economic Development Council has opened pre-registration for an Aging in Place Construction course as part of their Trades Training Initiative. This course is open to participants from San Juan County, ages 18 and over, and includes considerations for designing aging-in-place construction. The course goes for three days, all day. The tentative dates are April 23, 24, 25 or end of May, likely May 28, 29, 30. Businesses are urged to sign up. Dates for the course will be determined after community interest has been gauged.

The upcoming course, taught by Andy Arrants with the Building Industry Association of Washington, is for individuals who want to learn construction methods to benefit people who require home construction modifications for aging or for medical complications in the home, including ramps, guardrails and other modifications. Completion of the course will provide Certified Aging in Place certification (CAPS).

Registration can be completed on the EDC website. For information or to register, please visit https://sanjuansedc.org/trades/. For questions, please contact the EDC at 360-378-2906 or email liam@sanjuansedc.org. Space is limited.
