The Lopez Education Association, in partnership with the Lopez Public School Employees, and the Lopez School Board and Administration invite you to join them in a non-partisan “Day of Action” for Education. The Lopez “Day of Action” will be Nov. 28, which is the first day that the state legislature will be back in session to consider potentially drastic cuts to education. The event will also coincide with a statewide “Week of Action.”

At 4 p.m. at the Lopez Community Center, those interested will  walk through Lopez Village, then return to the center to start a letter-writing campaign.

“The ‘Day of Action’ and letter-writing campaign are not to ask for more money. We are asking the state to fund basic education. Our students are our future,”  LEA President Jeanna Carter said. “We have a responsibility to provide them with an education that meets the demands of being an educated citizen. The potential cuts could limit our ability to continue to provide the quality of basic education that the Lopez community has supported.”

The need for a “Day of Action” stems from current and proposed state budget cuts to education that will negatively affect our students. This year’s collaboration between the Lopez Education Association, Lopez Public School Employee, Lopez School Board and Administration has enabled us to overcome current state budget cuts, to provide the best education possible for our students. Current state proposals will make it even more difficult to  provide basic education locally and statewide.

“This meaningful relationship is a role model for other districts,” Superintendent Bill Evans said. “We invite you to join us as we ask our local and state government to keep budget cuts away from education and our students”
