As part of Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support’s continuing series “Living Long on Lopez,” we will host an informative panel discussion from 10 a.m. to noon on May 5, at Grace Church Hall entitled “Eating Well is Vital.”
Our panel will include moderator Levanne Hendrix, GNP, MSN, Ph.D., gerontological nurse practitioner Susie Teague from Whispers of Nature and NIS practitioner Sue Roundy from the Bounty project; and Deborah Bonnville, from the Lopez Island Family Resource Center.
Our participants will share their knowledge about how to nourish our bodies as we age, and how what we eat affects our bodies from our brains to our toes. Teague will talk about how nutrition affects our cells and cellular health. Roundy will discuss the benefits of eating locally, and will share up-to-date information on the many opportunities we have on Lopez Island. Deborah Bonnville will talk to us about food access on Lopez and how we can eat a healthy diet in an economical way. She will also share information about the Family Resource Center’s food programs.
We won’t stop at just talking about food, though. We will have healthy snacks and recipes, with ingredients donated by Blossom Foods. For more information, please contact the Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support office, 360-468-4446, or admin@lihhs.org.
