Lopez Island Grange is pleased to present two “Best of Fest” movies from the Friday Harbor Film Festival. The Friday Harbor Film Festival happens annually every fall on San Juan Island and features documentary films that “Entertain – Inspire – Enlighten” us about the people, cultures, and environment that make up the area known as the Pacific Rim. The films selected are top-rated films from the 2018 Film Festival.
“We are grateful to Karen Palmer the Producer of Friday Harbor Film Festival for offering us the opportunity to show these inspiring documentaries,” said Sue DuMond, Grange master. DuMond added: “The films will be shown on the Grange’s new professional movie screen made possible by a 2018 LTAC grant.”
Celebrating Women’s History Month, this Friday, March 22, at 7 p.m., the first film to be shown is “On Her Shoulders,” a film about Nadia Murad, the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize-winning activist who speaks out about the genocide of her Yazidi community. On April 19, at 7 p.m., to honor Earth Day, “Chasing the Thunder,” a high-seas documentary about the eco-warriors of Sea Shepherd, and their epic 110-day, a 10,000-mile chase of the Thunder, a notorious poaching vessel, will be shown.
Movies are free by donation with donations graciously accepted and added to the Grange’s building maintenance fund, 452 Richardson Rd. Visit www.facebook.com/lopezislandgrange, email lopezislandgrange@gmail.com or call 360-468-2753 for more information.
