The Lopez Island Library and Friends of the Library are sponsoring a visit from Young Adult author Sidney Salter. Ms Salter will talk about her new book, “Swoon At Your Own Risk,” and about the writing process at the Lopez Middle School on Oct. 11, at 11:25 a.m. in Colleen Currie’s classroom.
The community is invited to attend the presentation. If interested, call Ms. Currie at 468-2202, ext. 2208. If you tune your radio to 102.9 FM at 1:00 on Wednesday, you will hear an interview with Ms. Salter on Lou Pray’s radio show “Lou’s News and Reviews”.
“Swoon At Your Own Risk,” (ages 12 and up) introduces us to Polly Martin who has sworn off boys, and is trying to survive her summer job at Wild Waves western-themed water park under the supervision of ex-boyfriend #3 Sawyer Holmes. Polly thinks she’ll get great relationship advice when her Grandmother, the famous syndicated advice columnist Miss Swoon, comes to live with them. However, Polly finds it hard to turn her focus from boys to herself when Grandma turns out to be fairly man-crazy.
The School Library Journal calls “Swoon At Your Own Risk,”, “A light read with an emotional awakening and enough romance to keep fans of the genre interested.” Booklist writes, “What appears to be a frothy summer confection delves into some heftier emotions as the underlying issues motivating Polly’s actions, as well as those of her mom and grandma, are uncovered.”
Ms. Salter lives and writes full-time in Utah with her daughters, husband, dogs, cats, and tortoises. Her other books include, “My Big Nose and Other Natural Disasters” and “Jungle Crossing.” Ms. Salter’s books can be purchased at Islehaven Books or checked out at the Lopez Island Library and School Library.
