After five years away, we are thrilled to have the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) returning to Lopez! MCT is the largest touring children’s theatre program in the U.S, bringing the arts to all 50 states, as well as five Canadian Provinces and 16 countries. On average, MCT has 65,000 cast members and 750,000 audience members each year! This group will delight you with their enthusiasm, creativity and professionalism of their production.
How does MCT work? Two tour actors/directors travel to Lopez with the set, lights, costumes, props and make-up – everything that’s needed to put on a full-scale musical, except for the actors! The team will then hold an open audition to 1st-12th graders on Monday, June 26, at 10 a.m. and the week’s schedule will be based on the role your child receives. There are many roles available for kids from ages 6-18! Kids have fun rehearsing from Monday-Friday with professional actor/directors from Missoula Children’s Theatre touring company, with the show brought to life for audiences right at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts’ stage on Saturday!
We are excited to present “Peter and Wendy” as this year’s performance! When Captain Hook sends his right-hand man, Smee, on a quest to capture Peter Pan, it’s seemingly business as usual… at first. Little does Hook realize what fantastic adventures await him and his pirate posse in their search for the elusive Peter Pan. Mistaken identities, ever-morphing clouds, a classy crocodile, some very lost boys, and a fickle shadow all add to the mayhem. Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Darling embark on a quest of their own and find themselves trekking everywhere from Hawaii to the North Pole in search of their three missing children. With help from the earth-friendly Neverlanders, exotic Neverland creatures, and faithful Tinker Bell, the Darling children are found, disputes are ultimately resolved, and everyone – including Captain Hook – finds a place where they truly belong. Performances will be held on Saturday, July 1, at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and tickets will be $10 for adults and $6 for youth and seniors, sold at the door.
MCT will also offer three one-hour workshops: “Learn to Improv” for grades 3-12, “Acting” for grades 1-3, and “Let’s Makeup” for grades 1-12. “Let’s Makeup” specifically gives students a quick tutorial on how to do stage makeup, by demonstrating (on a few participants) corrective, character and special effects makeup. Through these unique, educational workshops and the weeklong program, children will develop their creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills, and self-esteem… As well as develop their confidence on stage at LCCA and have a fantastic time doing it!
