Northwest Puppet Center’s “Thumbelina” performed by the Oregon Shadow Theatre comes to the Lopez Community Center Saturday, May 28, 2 p.m.
“Thumbelina” is Hans Christian Andersen’s story of a miniature girl born from a flower who has to find her own way in the world of nature. After a long journey the tiny heroine discovers her home in the land of the flower fairies.
Oregon Shadow Theatre uses a combination of brightly colored shadow puppets, live music on hammer dulcimer, electric guitar and an assortment of percussion and sound effects.
The visual design of the play is drawn from Art Nouveau, the decorative art movement of the late 1800s which is characterized by flowing organic lines and nature themes. The art and music of the show is also inspired by the Rock ‘n Roll era of the 1960 and 70s.
Tickets for the Lopez show are available in advance at Blossoms and Islehaven Books and at the door.
