It was exactly a year ago that the colorful, art-adorned food truck, Poutine Your Mouth, popped up in the village of Lopez the week of the Fourth of July. We were full of excitement and enthusiasm, and had no idea what to expect. So much has happened and changed in a year. After 14 months, and a major internal overhaul of the food truck to meet the rigid requirements of Labor & Industries, the truck is finally permanently licensed with the state, and San Juan County.
The menu has expanded to offer hot sandwiches, wraps and salads, but most importantly the ingredients to create the menu are almost entirely sourced on Lopez. The two leading factors that attracted Ted Warner and Jennifer Buckallew to relocate their business and young family to Lopez were a different way of life and the incredible food. With local, high-quality, organic ingredients so fresh and close, the difference is mind blowing.
Adapting to island life and the seasonality of the San Juans has certainly been interesting. Fortunately, resilience and adaptability are embraced, and perhaps required here on Lopez. We love this island we call home, and look forward to serving and supporting our community, and visitors, for many years to come.
If you happen to see the truck, stop by and say hello. We will be happy to Poutine Your Mouth.
