This weekend Carter Family Marionettes will bring the color and excitement of a Venetian carnival to Lopez Village.
Their performance of “Love for Three Oranges”, an Italian fairy tale, will take place on Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. at Lopez Community Center (outdoors, weather permitting).
Large hand-carved marionettes, beautiful backdrops and live music bring to life a tale of humor, fantasy and adventures for audiences of all ages. Join Prince Tartaglia, as he sets off on a quest for love. He is helped by the clown Arlecchino and a good fairy to outwit the evil fairy, Fata Morgana, and finds a magical Orange Princess.
Three generations of the Carter Family bring their signature slapstick, satire and fun for young and old to this Commedia del’Arte play.
“Love for Three Oranges” kicks off the third season of Puppets on the Rock, a family-oriented puppet season sponsored by Northwest Puppet Center with shows by Lopez’s own Carter Family Marionettes and guest puppet companies. The season continues with:
Nov. 27, 11 a.m., “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Carter Family Marionettes
March 26, 2 p.m., “The Adventures of Monkey King” by Yang Family Puppet Theater
May 28, 2 p.m., “Thumbelina” by Oregon Shadow Theatre
All performances are at Lopez Community Center.
