Betty J. Provence of Lopez, WA passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2016 with family at her side after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born on July 21, 1933 in Minneapolis, MN the second of eight children to Joseph and Eleanor Saegert.
In 1941, when she was 8 years old, the family moved west and Seattle, WA became their home. She attended area schools, graduating from Edmonds High School in 1951. Shortly after that she married Ray Prewitt, and they raised their four boys in the Seattle area. Her boys were the joy of her life and they meant the world to her.
Betty remarried in 1974 to Harold Provence and together they raised his four children. During their 42 years together they loved square dancing, were avid Mariner fans, loved bowling, playing bingo and the penny slot machines. In 1998, to fulfill her dream, they built a home and moved to Lopez Island spending the winter months in Yuma, AZ. Betty was an avid gardener who despised weeds, always had a perfectly landscaped yard and enjoyed watching things grow and change.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Robert Saegert and brother in law, Richard Schmidt . She leaves behind her siblings, Dick Saegert (Barbara), Marilyn Widmer, Joyce Moss (Bill), Carol Schmidt, Jim Brown (Holly) and Don Saegert and as well as her children, Terry Prewitt (Carolyn), Steven Prewitt (Ronda) David Prewitt and Larry Prewitt (Lori) and her stepchildren, Henry Provence (Jody), Charlene Provence, Brian Provence and Vivian Provence. She was a loving and fun grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Betty loved life, brought joy to all of those around her, was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Sonrise Christian Center, 11625 Airport Road, Suite D, Everett, WA 98208.
