The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

May 22

• A resident found a selfie stick on San Juan and turned it into the Sheriff’s office where it was booked into the property room.

• A deputy responded to a report of an unwanted person at a local daycare center on Orcas who refused to leave. The person later left and was contacted by deputies and arrested for first-degree criminal trespass. During the arrest, law enforcement also found illicit drugs on the person, who was then booked into jail.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a DUI on an incoming ferry. A driver of a vehicle was found to be asleep at the wheel with a cup of whiskey and a beer in the cup holders. The driver was arrested for physical control, obstructing a law enforcement office, and resisting arrest.

May 23

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a reported theft from a store in town. The store had video footage and identified the suspect. After deputies located the suspect and arrested them for third-degree theft, the property was recovered.

• The Sheriff’s Office on San Juan received a referral from Adult Protective Services on a case currently being investigated.

• A deputy on San Juan received a report of a case of possible financial exploitation. The deputy contacted the possible victim and determined they had not been exploited, and closed the case.

• A Lopez deputy received a report of a speeding driver who was illegally passing vehicles. The deputy located the driver and issued them a citation.

May 24

• A Lopez resident reported a domestic incident that is currently not criminal. However, the deputy completed a report and recommended other resources.

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft report in Eastsound. The caller said their inflatable stand-up paddle board had been stolen from the public access beach near the Eastsound County Dock at Madrona Point.

• On Orcas, a deputy responded to a reported theft at a local business. The suspect was identified via video surveillance, and the investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to Roche Harbor to assist the U.S. Coast Guard with a possibly intoxicated vessel operator.

May 25

• A deputy responded to a trespassing call on Orcas. There were no suspects at the time; cameras were to be put in place on the property to monitor further incidents.

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of malicious mischief on San Juan. The deputy located a parking lot at one of the parks that had been vandalized by someone who painted slogans on the parking lot.

May 26

• On Orcas, a deputy responded to a non-injury accident near ‘map corner.’ The driver, who was found at their residence, explained they had swerved to miss a deer; and they were arranging a tow and in communication with the owner of the damaged fence.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a cat stuck in wire fencing. With the help of Friday Harbor APS and a veterinarian, the feral cat was sedated enough to get it unstuck from the fence. APS then took custody of the cat and transported it for an evaluation.

May 27

• Drug paraphernalia was turned in to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. The glass pipe was marked for destruction and booked into the property room.

• A Center Island resident reported being ejected from their boat by a large wake from a larger passing boat. No injuries were reported.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a domestic dispute. No crime had been committed, and the deputy wrote a report for informational purposes.

May 28

• A Lopez deputy responded to a call about possible fraud at a local business. An unknown individual tried to purchase an item with a cashier’s check that was written for more than the item’s value. The incident was documented and the business experienced no monetary loss.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a harassment complaint. The accused were issued trespass warning letters at the request of the complainant.

• On San Juan, a deputy took a report of a vehicle collision. The driver was arrested after the deputy determined them to be under the influence of alcohol and booked them into the San Juan County Jail.
