There’s no shortage of classical music-lovers on Lopez, many of whom surely will welcome the new book, :Classical Seattle – Maestros, Impresarios, Virtuosi, and Other Music Makers.” The book’s author, part-time Lopezian Melinda Bargreen, will talk about “Classical Seattle” at an event at Lopez Bookshop on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.

In “Classical Seattle” (University of Washington Press, 2015), Melinda Bargreen profiles thirty-five prominent figures – conductors, performing artists, composers, arts organizers, and arts leaders who have shaped Seattle’s classical music community and made world-class performances possible. Bargreen, herself a composer and the classical music critic for the “Classical Seattle” from 1977 to 2008, is uniquely qualified to portray the individuals featured in the book, including University of Washington virtuosi, Seattle Symphony maestros and musicians, and Seattle Opera directors. “If music is important to your life, you will find “Classical Seattle” an incredibly compelling and inspirational read,” says Aloysia Friedmann, musician and founder of the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival.

“We’re delighted that Melinda will share her book here,” says Iris Graville, Events Coordinator for Lopez Bookshop. “It’s an exquisite volume that would be a lovely gift for music-lovers.” “Classical Seattle”, as well as Bargeen’s earlier book, “50 Years of Seattle Opera,” will be available for purchase.

This presentation is part of the Bookshop’s 2015-16 Literary Events calendar. We’ll have some refreshments that night,” Graville says, “and, undoubtedly, some classical music playing.” The event is free and open to the public.
