Puppets on the Rock present: The Dragon, the Knight and the Mermaid. Three generations of Carter Family Marionettes kick off the season with a Sicilian tale of chivalry and fantasy. Annual Lopez Village Street Dance: From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Parking Lot in front of Holly B’s & Caffé LaBoheme. Music by the Atlantics, there will be dancing, food, and a celebration of the end of summer. Free to one and all, bring dancing shoes. Sponsored by Holly B’s and Caffé LaBoheme.

San Juan Islands Conservation District: The regularly scheduled Board of Supervisors meeting is from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. S&S Center for Sustainability on Lopez Island. Established in 1970, the Center is dedicated to producing fresh local organic seasonally and sustainably grown food while providing education in ecological farming and sustainable living. The Center originated the Lopez Island Farm Education (LIFE) program. It is a Demonstration Farm for WSU (http://csanr.wsu.edu//DemoFarms), where CD Supervisor Henning Sehmsdorf is adjunct professor. Polaris Workshop: Polaris, a GIS software tool, will be taught at 1 p.m. at the Lopez Library. Learn how to mark up your map with text and drawing tools, email a map to your friend, obtain information and parcels and addresses, such as ownership, acreage, and assessed value, and more. A discussion of upcoming Polaris applications and functionality will be coming your way in the near future. All sessions open to the public. Lopez Island Garden Club Meeting: The Lopez Island Garden Club kicks off the new season on Thursday September 10 at 9:30 a.m. The meeting has moved to Woodmen Hall located at 4102 Fisherman Bay Road. The presenter is Alyse Ortega. She will be demonstrating floral arrangements in the Japanese Ikibana style, and also in the traditional English style. Members and guests are encouraged to bring flowers, foliage, seed pods, etc., from their gardens and a container if they would like to create their own arrangement. 11th Annual Steve Braun Memorial Triathlon: Orcas Island Moran State Park, at the Cascade Lake picnic area; 8:30 a.m. pre-race meeting/Race begins at 9 a.m.; .4 mile swim in beautiful Cascade Lake followed by a 17 mile bike ride on a scenic country road and then a 3.5 mile trail run around the lake.
